THE DRILL - April 16th Edition Posted 04/16/05
-NWA Upstate would like to thank the 400+ fans that attended Anniversary Anarchy this past weekend. Those on hand witnessed possibly the greatest Upstate show ever, featuring stars from both NWA TNA, as well as ROH stars and even an ROH title defense. Two title changes happened on 4/9, the first being Jake N Bake defeating Chip Stetson for the Dojo title, and in a surprising upset, "Wonderman" Glenn Spectre defeated Danny Doring to be the new Upstate champion.
-The Osawa Syndicate have not been making many friends lately in the Upstate locker room. For months they've been a thorn in the side of Mean Marcos, costing him his Dojo title back in November. And now they possibly committed their most dastardly act to date. After hearing Chip Stetson announce a planned retirement, Hellcat could not believe what he had heard. During Stetson's defense against Jake N Bake after the official was caught in the crossfire, Hellcat emerged from the back, looking to help Stetson, only to FIREBALL him! Stetson suffered serious burns to his face, and will most likely be out of action until Upstate's next show on 5/14.
As a result of Hellcat's actions, Chip Stetson has issued a tag team grudge match challenge. Chip Stetson has asked his one time rival, the former Dojo & Tag Team champion Marcos to watch his back at the All Star Sports Arena on 5/14. These two bitter enemies are now brought together for a common hatred, for the Osawa Syndicate. Hellcat has accepted the challenge on behalf of his Syndicate, and has placed Charisma & Gabe Saint in the match. So on 5/14 we will see tag team war as Chip Stetson & Mean Marcos take on Gabe Saint & Charisma!
-The Upstate title match has also been signed for 5/14 as new champion "Wonderman" Glenn Spectre is set to defend against the #1 contender "Right Stuff" Brodie Lee. Lee earned the shot at the champ after defeating "Classic" Colt Cabana at Anniversary Anarchy. Lee has held EVERY title in NWA Upstate(dating back to RPW 2004), except the heavyweight title. Lee is looking to be the first man in Upstate history to hold every title, but has a large mountain to climb if he wants to accomplish his goal. Spectre is an international talent and not to be taken lightly, especially with his Banana Brigade at ringside.
-Diablo Santiago of the Out Cast Killaz suffered an unfortunate and serious injury over a month ago causing him to take time off to heal his injuries. However, Upstate officials received word from Star Rider, leader of the Star Foundation, that Diablo would be back alongside Oman Tortuga on 5/14, and they want their tag team title shot. The OCK are the #1 contenders to the Olsen's titles, after defeating Cheech & Cloudy back in December. Star Rider was also irate over the fact that the team the OCK defeated to earn that spot received a shot before they did. The Olsen's have been champions for almost 6 months now, but have possibly the biggest task ahead with the angry and hungry OCK.
-Female action returns to Upstate on 5/14, as Alere Little Feather makes her Upstate debut, as she takes on Miss Deville of "Up in Smoke". This will be the second female contest in Upstate history, with good expectations following the first contest with Synndy & international star Ariel.
-While 5/14 at the All Star Sports Arena is only 4 weeks away, we would like to mention that Upstate will return, for the final time to the Ukrainian Club in Webster on 7/2. The building will be torn down shortly after the show. Upstate wants to show their appreciation to the great fans of Webster who have supported us for the past year with a fantastic night of action, highlighted with the Upstate debut of NWA-TNA X Division Champion "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels as he takes on D to the Icky, TNA & Team Canada member Petey Williams, and Chip Stetson will say good-bye in his retirement match! Don't miss out on this history date in Upstate history this July.
-NWA Upstate would also like to thank Ring of Honor for allowing us to hold a title match on our show, especially Jay Lethal's first Pure title defense. We hope to work out more deals in the future with ROH.
-Check back in a few weeks to see what other matches have been signed for 5/14, and news on the Upstate 8 2005 tag tourney, D to the Icky, Eric Everlast, Jake N Bake, the Six Man champions, news on Upstate DVD releases, and much more!
